Happiness Post of the Week

When we think of happiness, we should think of ourselves as a bucket/tank…we need to put things into the bucket/tank to fill it up…

Spending time with family would add something positive to your happiness bucket/tank…

What else can you think of that would bring happiness when added to your bucket/tank?

What have you filled your bucket/tank with this week?

What will you fill your bucket/tank with next week?

Happiness Post of the Week – Dealing with Loneliness

Today I’m going to give you some ideas to help you deal with feeling lonelyhow many of you have felt lonely at some point this term?

We feel lonely when we feel disconnected. We could even be surrounded by other people, but still feel lonely. If we don’t feel connected to the people around us, we can feel isolated. The same happens if we communicate with our friends lots online, but not very much in person.

Loneliness makes us feel sad, negative and not very optimistic. It tells our bodies and our minds that something isn’t right, which feels wrong, for humans at least.

To feel less lonely, we need to make meaningful connections. One of the best ways to do this is to have something you do regularly, with people you care about the most. To create HABITS. For example:

With your friends

  • Cuddle when you see each other first thing in the morning at school, or when you say goodbye.
  • Tell each other how they’ve been a good friend that day, before you go home.
  • Ask each other how your evening was, during your first conversation of the day.
  • Draw each other a little picture once a week, which will make them smile.

With your family

  • Sit around the table to eat your dinner, so you can talk about your day/life in general.
  • Ask your parents a question about life every day when you get home from school.
  • Walk the dog with your parent after school, or at the weekend.
  • Go on a family bike-ride/walk every weekend.
  • Invite other members of the family round for dinner once a week.
  • Cuddle and kiss your parents/siblings goodnight every evening.
  • Drink some warm milk together before you go to bed.
  • Read stories to each other most days.

So there are lots of ways we can create connection with our friends and family. Create a small habit, one which will encourage you to show how much you care, and you can do every day/week. This will help you deal with feelings of loneliness.

What else could you do to feel less lonely at school, or at home?

Happiness Post – What has made you smile this week?

Sometimes, we can get weighed down with negative things in life, and forget the things that make us smile so much…

I’d love to know what’s made you smile, or laugh, this week? Look back over the last few days and think about your friends, or your family, or even a TV programme you’ve seen that has made you grin from ear to ear.

When I smile/laugh, it lifts my mood and helps me to feel positive and motivated. What happens with your emotions when you smile/laugh?

Comedy can help us make sense of life when we’re feeling troubled. It reminds us that life isn’t so bad after all – we have a lot to be grateful for. How do you make other people smile or laugh?

Thought for today…

Good morning everyone

Everyday, you will see a thought for the day posted on here. You should read it as a class, and have a quick discussion about it. Perhaps you could also finish your day by gathering your class’s thoughts and opinions as well?

Today’s thought:

If you were the Prime Minister, what would you do to make sure everyone in your country was as healthy as possible?

Your teacher can write their ideas below in the comments, or you can log on yourselves to answer the question. Why not ask parents and grandparents as well?

Life is a mixed bag…

It’s been quiet on the Blog this week – where are you all?! Having fun, feeling happy, eating well and moving lots hopefully!

Today we’re going to discuss ‘life’ itself!

Hills and dales…what are they?

Bierstadt_Albert_Hill_and_Dale

One’s high, one’s flat. A bit like life really…sometimes we have high points: when we feel great, and sometimes we have times when we just feel a bit bleurgh.

Then there are the valleys: the really low points, when life is a bit rotten.

Harau_valley

But this is all normal. Life has its hills, dales and valleys. It’s how we deal with them that is important.

Can you think of some opposites? Some hills and valleys? For example:

  • Health and illness
  • Happiness and sadness

Tell us some more in the comments below!

We recognise life can be a bit like that sometimes – the ups and the downs actually make us stronger in the long term (ask most adults and they will agree with this). A mixed bag of positives and negatives.

‘Resilience’ is the ability to deal with tough situations and be able to move on from them in some way.

When life throws in some unfortunate surprises, we should sit back and try to recognise that the intensity of negative emotions we feel right now, will probably not last forever. We should also try to find the positive in any situation: happy memories, to things to look forward to.

So this is life – it has its hills, dales and valleys unfortunately. Hopefully there will be more hills in all of your lives than there are dales and valleys!

What’s your unique talent?

Hi everyone, Mindset Warrior here!

I was selected to be a Health Champion for The Children’s Health Project because I have some unique talents. One of them is being able to teach children (like you!) how to deal with worry, stress or anxiety. I have a whole set of tools and tips to help you manage your feelings and emotions, which I’ll be sharing with you on this blog…

The other Health Champions on the team have their own unique talents, all related to health and wellbeing.

Captain Kinetic knows all about movement, exercise and play…

Nutrition Ninja’s unique talent is being able to teach children like you about healthy eating, and why we should make healthy choices in our foods…

Agent Lifestyle is an expert in getting all those daily habits in place that help promote a healthy lifestyle…

Now, you are also Health Champions, I understand. I see your names pop up whenever you post something, or comment on something! I do wonder what your unique talents are though…

Can you tell me a bit about your unique talent when it comes to staying healthy? Is it something you have practised over time? Can you take a photo of your unique talent and add it in the comments box below?

Mindset Warrior’s Champion Challenge 1

Mind over matter: if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

This week, our blog has seen a theme of ‘happy posts’. It’s Anti-Bullying Week, and their slogan this year is ‘Power of Good’.

Doing something new can be incredibly powerful for good health. Just like thinking new, happy thoughts, makes us feel good.

My challenge to you this week is to try something new every single day.

You could…

  • Taste a new fruit or vegetable…
  • Try to read a book which was too challenging a while ago…
  • Look online to learn good technique to learn how to move faster than you ever have before…
  • Play a new game with your friends…
  • Do some yoga and deep breathing every morning before school…

Or, you can choose something for yourself – but you must try something new, every single day.

If you believe you will like it, or can do it…maybe you can?

What new, healthy things did you try this week?

Let me know by creating a new post, and choosing the category ‘Champion Challenge’…you can even add a picture of you trying your new healthy habit!

What is ‘abundance’? How can it help us to be healthy?

Good morning everyone!

Today’s #tuesdaytip is about ABUNDANCE. Abundance means ‘a large quantity of something’ – or ‘a lot of something’. As it’s Anti-Bullying Week this week, focussing on ‘abundance’ is an important way of reminding us to help each other to be happy.

Having a lot of friends is great – more people to play with, more people to invite around your house, and more people to make you laugh! But sometimes, having just a couple of very close, caring friends is just as good – the ones you really trust, and know will always show you kindness.

Today, and for the rest of the week, why don’t you try to find ‘abundance’ in how happy you can make each other…we need a ‘large quantity’ of happiness in our schools, to help us with daily life. Do this by:

  • Talking to other children in your school that you’ve not spoken to before – they could be younger, or older.
  • Learn the names of 5 people you didn’t know before.
  • Speaking to new people when you’re with your parents.
  • Finding at least one way each day to make your best friends smile from ear-to-ear.
  • Doing something each day which makes your heart feel warm, and you feel peaceful.

We hope you find an abundance of happiness this week, for yourself, and others.

2-1Good luck!

Dealing with stress – clap along…

Sometimes, life gets difficult.

When it does, we need a little something to lift our spirits, and help us feel more positive.

Pharrell Williams does just that with his song ‘Happy’ featured in the film, Despicable Me 2.

“Clap along if you know what happiness is to you…” sings Pharrell. My question is: what is happiness to you?

Today’s inspiration is for you and your class to have a sing along! The lyrics are below, and you can find the video HERE on YouTube.

Lyrics

It might seem crazy what I’m about to say
Sunshine she’s here, you can take away
I’m a hot air balloon, I could go to space
With the air, like I don’t care baby by the way

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

Here come bad news talking this and that
Yeah, give me all you got, don’t hold back
Yeah, well I should probably warn you I’ll be just fine
Yeah, no offence to you don’t waste your time
Here’s why

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

Happy, bring me down
Can’t nothing, bring me down
Love is too happy to bring me down
Can’t nothing, bring me down
I said bring me down
Can’t nothing, bring me down
Love is too happy to bring me down
Can’t nothing, bring me down
I said

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

Happy, bring me down
Can’t nothing, bring me down
Love is too happy to bring me down
Can’t nothing, bring me down
